Fashion: how to style the season’s coolest hair accessories

IT IS easy to get bored with your hairstyle – after all, most of us have had it the same way for years. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to change up your look without doing anything extreme. High fashion has realized the endless possibilities of hair accessories, giving bows and retro clips an update for 2020.

Pulling off the right hair accessory takes a little more thought than simply placing it on your head, but, done right, they can be a chic way to transform your look for the New Year and beyond…

The best thing about this trend is that you can choose a headband that suits your personality. If you’re always on the cutting edge of style, pair it with another trend and opt for a pearl studded headband. Or, if you have more eccentric tastes, invest in a brightly colored knotted band. Of course, adding jewelry is always a good choice, especially for a New Year’s Eve party. Try to backcomb the area where you are going to put the headband on first, then it will fit better in the hair and be more secure.

Slides and clips are a fantastic and inexpensive way to accessorize hair. Prep the hair first with a texturizing spray or dry shampoo, to give it some grip. If your locks are too silky and soft, the clips will just slip off. For added security, take a small section of hair, twist and secure with a rubber band, then pin or slide your clips into it.

It is possible to style this simple accessory in an adult way. Wrap a red ribbon tightly around a high ponytail to create a “show pony” look, secured with bobby pins around the base. You want your pony to be as high as possible and your hair to be as smooth as possible. It’s an easy do-it-yourself look at home, and you can add an extra retro touch by curling the ends of your hair outward.

Add some sparkle to your hair by using old chains or necklaces wrapped around the base of a ponytail and securing them in place with a small kirby grip. Take a look in your jewelry box, because brooches and earrings can also be used as hair accessories. A fun way to dress up a simple braid or braid is to place small hoop or rhinestone earrings over it to add some sparkle and movement.
