Matching nail and hair accessories, seen at Alice & Olivia S / S ’22
In a world where mask mandates have made make-up playful somewhat redundant, the focus in recent months has shifted to nail art and hair accessories to showcase personal style. And that was exactly the energy for the look of Alice + Olivia’s S / S ’22 runway show, where the embellished manicures matched the glamorous and over-the-top hair accessories.
“We go all out with hair accessories,” TRESemmé global stylist Justine Marjan told TZR of inspiration amidst the backstage madness. “We wanted it to be eye-catching, and since the collection is really colorful and fun, we worked to complete it. All girls have one of five looks, depending on their outfit. Some girls wear monochrome outfits, so they will have monochrome clips (of the same color) placed in their hair to match. Some are more bohemian so we make long braids and then dress them with ribbons and black and white accessories. Some make messy buns with crystals and bead clips.
To get the basic look – regardless of braids, updos or curls – Marjan started by parting the hair in the center and spraying it with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protect Spray from root to tip. For added texture, the team sprayed on TRESemmé Dry Texture Spray. Then the models were either styled in braids, a messy bun, or chunky curls. “Girls with curly hair, we released them with the Flawless Curls collection,” Marjan explained.
The colorful clips, beads, and jewelry in the hair alone could have stolen the show, but the nail coordination really sealed the deal. “All the nails were inspired by the different looks and hairstyles to create harmony,” famous nail artist Alicia Torello told TZR of the different OPI products used. Six different varnishes were used throughout the show, ranging from chewing gum pink to electric blue: OPI Nail Lacquer in “Art Walk in Suzi’s Shoes”, “Rated Pea-G”, “PCH Love Song”, “Tile Art to Warm Your Heart ”, Nature Strong Natural Original Nail Polish in“ Make My Daisy ”or“ Emflowered ”.
A few of the looks had also added embellishments for a shiny and artistic nail. “For the black and white looks, we placed pearl embellishments on the thumbnails that are supposed to hang down,” says Torello. “There are also black and white versions – where some will have pearls and others will have rhinestones. Tonal colors, like red and white, were used on girls who had more monochrome outfits. “
General themes for Alice + Olivia’s beauty looks included monochrome, punk rock princess and bohemian, all equally glamorous and some of the most exciting beauty moments from New York Fashion Week so far. So if you’re looking for a new trend to try for fall, allow this maximalist moment in nail and hair accessories to give you all the inspiration you need.
