We had the pleasure of speaking with Riley about his line. Read on to learn more about the launch process, the brand’s history, and why the star stylist insists her extensions are unique.
The journey of SHAE hair extensions
Riley started wanting to study extensions from a design perspective in 2016, but turned his curiosity into a full-time goal in 2018.
“After working with extensions for years, I really felt like something was missing and wanted to create a better product not just for myself but for everyone,” Riley told Mane Addicts. “I modified most of the extensions by cutting the wefts to fit the clients’ heads or cutting the clips and adding duct tape to make them lie flatter. The more I spoke with my peers, the more I felt there was a need for change, and I felt inspired by them to finally create SHAE.
The biggest challenges of launching an extension line
“Departure SHAE came up with many challenges, especially because our suppliers are in a completely different time zone than ours, ”says Riley. “Sometimes going back and forth with a manufacturer about the changes you want to make or even the daily communication is made difficult because of that. The biggest challenge we have faced is trying to get started during and after the pandemic. Trying to figure out all the moving parts during the pandemic has been extremely difficult. There are also so many little details that need to be worked out when starting a business that you don’t think about when you start the process. It’s all worth it in the end when everything is exactly the way you want it and imagined it! ”
The motivation behind the launch of a line of hair extensions
Riley was so used to polishing a client’s look with extensions that she figured they might as well be hers!
“I always felt like it gave it that extra magical touch, even if it was just for fullness or extra length if they had shorter hair,” Riley says. “I wanted to be able to create my own line and give that feeling that I have after finishing a look to everyone. It’s the best feeling when the look is done, and I know it wouldn’t have turned out like this if it weren’t for the extensions. The possibilities are endless and I can’t wait to see the looks that everyone creates.
Why SHAE hair extensions stand out from the crowd
There are many regularly used extensions on the market, so the bar is already high. But that doesn’t bother Riley, as she’s convinced hers are unique.
“The wefts are extremely flexible, which makes them perfectly round the head, making them completely flat,” she says. “I worked so hard on this back and forth to make it perfect. There is also no noticeable seam on the weft, so it looks really nice and seamless. Also, the way we created the different weft sizes makes it extremely customizable and easy to create different looks.
The meaning of “SHAE”
Named after Riley’s sister, the stylist recalls, “A few years ago when we decided to call it SHAE, I printed a piece of paper with the wrapper on it, wrapped it up and made him open it. She was so excited that she cried. She feels honored to be the name of the brand and can’t wait to see it flourish and is so proud of me. Giving his name to the brand means so much to me! “
