This $25 Hair Bonding Treatment Gave Me Perfect Air-Dried Waves
The name is Bond. Capillary ties, that is. Link building treatments like those of Olaplex and K18 were all the rage for a minute among those looking to boost their hair health, and now Coco & Eve comes with a $25 wonder potion that aims to rejuvenate dry, dull locks. The best of all? It only takes 10 minutes to do its job.
As its name suggests, the just fallen Bond Building Pre-Shampoo Treatment aims to repair three types of structural bonds (disulfide, ionic and hydrogen) that are compromised when the hair suffers any kind of damage, whether by bleaching, heat treatment, UV or otherwise. Along with a polymer that works to repair broken bonds, the formula is infused with a cocktail of plant oils, such as coconut, pomegranate, apricot and avocado. The goal? To take color treated and chemically treated hair from fried to soft and silky. Prior to its launch, I got a bottle to try and see how it felt on my own hair.
Coco and Eve Bond Building Pre-Shampoo Treatment is designed to be applied to damp hair from root to tip, so I brought it into the shower with me and set a phone timer for 10 minutes while I shaved my legs and soaped up my body . Where many hair masks are thick and creamy, Coco & Eve’s new bond builder is a medium-weight texture that’s a bit runnier than your normal conditioner. I loved that this treatment was easy to apply to my medium length hair and didn’t feel too heavy. (I used about five pumps on my lob, BTW.) Per the instructions, I rinsed it out and followed with my regular shampoo and conditioner. After drying with my Aquis towel, I decided to forego my usual application of hair oil to see if the link building treatment actually made a difference after just one use. (Normally, if I don’t use any product after showering, my hair swells into a poofy mess.)
As my hair air-dried, I carefully assessed the look and feel of my locks. Much to my delight, my hair didn’t feel weighed down at all and it dried in a way that actually enhanced my natural texture. I really noticed a difference when my hair was completely dry. Although there was still a halo of flyaways, it was pretty good not to have used styling product after the shower.
At $25, Coco & Eve Bond Building Pre-Shampoo Treatment is the one I highly recommend for instant softness and shine. I have generally healthy hair to begin with (and want it to stay that way using a product like this to minimize breakage), so I’d be curious to see how the product works for people with bleached hair or more seriously damaged. All in all I think it’s good value for the quality and quantity of product you get and will definitely be looking for it again.
