‘Violent’ woman knocked out clubber and ripped off her hair extensions in watered row triggered when boyfriend grabbed butt

A teenage girl who knocked out another clubber in a drunken fight that erupted when her friend grabbed a man’s butt at a party has avoided jail.

Fiona Hoyle, 19, punched Kealey Smith, pulled out her hair extensions and stomped on her, leaving her unconscious, concussed and bruised all over.

The fight started when Hoyle’s friend, beautician Scarlett Bareham, grabbed the bum of one of Miss Smith’s male friends in front of his girlfriend.

Today store worker Hoyle was given a suspended prison sentence for her role in the ensuing brawl.

She admitted to charges of fighting and actual bodily harm relating to the punching outside Mr Miyagi’s bar in Portsmouth, Hampshire, in August 2020.

Portsmouth Crown Court heard Hoyle was leaving a nightclub in the town with Bareham and a third friend when the fight broke out.

Gareth Burrows, prosecuting, said Miss Smith, now 21, and her friends left Mr Miyagi’s bar around 2am as it was closing and they decided to wait for an Uber to take them back to the House.

The court heard that, while they waited, Bareham grabbed the buttocks of one of Miss Smith’s male friends.

Mr Burrows said: ‘Miss Smith said ‘he has a girlfriend, you can’t do that’.

“With that Miss Hoyle responds saying she didn’t care. Miss Smith says ‘well you should’.

“Miss Hoyle then punched her in the face with great force, Miss Smith said ‘I believe she meant to harm me, she hit the left side of my face from my line of jaw to my neck’.

“She said Miss Hoyle was hitting her with one hand and pulling her hair with the other, ‘so hard my extensions were ripping out of my head’.

“She fell to the floor, passed out and lost consciousness. While on the floor, Miss Hoyle can be seen with others kicking and stomping on Miss Smith repeatedly.”

The court heard Hoyle, from Portsmouth, also hit and shove Miss Smith’s boyfriend and had to be led away by nearby door security while the woman was taken to hospital.

Miss Smith said: “This crime affected me more emotionally than physically, although at the time I was in great pain. I was covered in bruises from head to toe.

“I was too humiliated to come out knowing I had bruises all over my face and body. I had a concussion and had to stay in bed for days afterwards.

“I’ve become a lot more anxious about going out. I’m scared to see any of these girls again and what they might do to me.

“I feel like if I saw them again, they wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. I’m afraid they’ll do this to someone else and do more harm.”

Edward Hollingsworth, defending, said Hoyle had turned his life around after a “difficult” upbringing as one of ten siblings to a single mother and now works at retailer JD Sports.

He said: “She was drunk, she was wasting time in bars and she got into arguments and she acted violently.

“She very much regrets it and very much regrets the fear, hurt and emotional damage she caused Miss Smith.”

Hoyle was sentenced to a year in prison, but Judge David Melville QC suspended her for two years.

He said: “You were way too drunk, you got into an argument and you hit a perfectly innocent woman and when she was down you kicked her.

“You targeted an innocent woman and caused her significant injuries.

“It was appalling behavior, but that was two years ago and you’ve managed to turn your life around since then.”

Hoyle was also ordered to perform 75 hours of unpaid work and 30 days of rehabilitation, with the judge adding: “If you are prone to committing further criminal offenses in those two years, think again.

“Any new offense and a future judge will probably say you had your chance and send you to jail.”

Bareham initially faced sexual assault charges for taking the stocking, which she denied, but they were dropped for lack of evidence.

However, she admitted attacking fellow nightclub Mark Palmer, who got involved in the fight – kicking and punching her in the head.

She was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and ordered to pay Mr Palmer £150 after pleading guilty to affray at Portsmouth Crown Court late last year.

Hoyle and Bareham’s friend Hannah Phillips was also initially charged with sexual assault for slapping the man’s buttocks, but was later released after accepting a conditional caution over the incident.

At the last hearing, Hoyle also pleaded guilty to a new charge of fighting, possession of a knife and possession of an offensive weapon for a second incident in December 2020 when she was seen with a group of people. outside a building in Havant, Hants, ‘all yelling things like bitch, come on, fuckin pr*ck’.

Hoyle was seen on CCTV running through the building with a knife in one hand and a piece of fence board in the other.

Two other men, Portsmouth resident Abdou Touray and Havant resident Reiss Jones, were also seen brandishing weapons.

Touray, 20, admitted charges of fighting and possession of an offensive weapon and was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for two years, 30 days of rehabilitation and 100 hours of unpaid work.

Jones, 21, admitted charges of fighting, possession of a knife and possession of an offensive weapon. He was sentenced to a one-year prison term, a two-year suspended sentence, 100 hours of unpaid work and a reflection program.
